Zen & the Art of Violin Playing
by Christopher Latham
(an Homage to Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel)
The student says
I no longer bow - the bow hairs stroke me.
I am the violin which is the music.
Violin, Music, Bow,
All meld into a single flow.
I say my mantra - Bring Your Grace
Take my bow and play.
Everything clear,
So straight foward.
Ridiculously simple.
The teacher replies
Your bow has finally sawn you in half.
Your violin now rings you.
Music sings in your heart.
You now know the Buddha’s light.
